Alan is an graduate of the London School of Economics. He has worked in the City for over 30 years, 15 of those being with the firm he founded. He initially worked as an investment analyst with various well-known brokers in London including Grieveson, Grant (became part of Dresdner) and Laing and Cruickshank (absorbed into Credit Lyonnais).
In 1994, Alan established his own regulated advisory business, ARM Corporate Finance, which he led, as Chairman and Chief Executive, for over 15 years. ARM quickly became a Full List Sponsor and member of ISDX (then called OFEX), on which market it had some remarkable early success (BioFocus PLC, where ARM was a co-founder went from nothing to £80m market capitalisation after flotation on AIM; Motion Media PLC had an initial market capitalisation of £7m eventually going on to the Full List at a valuation of circa £180m and Next Fifteen Communications Group plc which started with a value of £10m was taken on to the Full List reaching £100m).
In the year 2000, ARM Corporate Finance became a nominated adviser (it was also a member of the London Stock Exchange) and grew its AIM client base to number over 20 before being sold by Alan in 2007 to an AIM quoted stockbroker which was then acquired by Religare Enterprises Limited, a $1 billion market capitalisation Indian financial services group with global aspirations. He was appointed to head most of the London based activities of the investment banking operations.
After completing a BSc in Computing and Information Systems, Wye-Li started her career as a Knowledge Management Consultant in the Information Technology industry, developing Business Intelligence Solutions for various banks and multi-national corporations in the Asia Pacific Region. In 2002, she went on to further her studies at King’s College London, graduating with a degree in Law and completing her Legal Practice Course in Corporate Law.
Wye-Li joined Argento from Religare Capital Markets where she worked in corporate finance since 2007. There, she advised on various UK IPOs and M&A transactions. She has also spent considerable time working with clients from the Asia Pacific region.
Wye-Li is currently based in Hong Kong.
Jim started his early career on the trading floor with The Stock Exchange Council in 1971 then joined NatWest Markets at the time of Big Bang to work in corporate finance and on FTSE client institutional placings. Following four years with Societe Generale involved in corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions in 1995 he became a nominated adviser at ARM Corporate Finance. He held Corporate Finance Director roles with HB Corporate and Dowgate Capital Advisers whilst also serving on the QCA Nomad Advisory Committee from 2006-2009.
Between 2010-2012 Jim served as a Non-Executive Director of Peer TV plc, an Israeli based technology company, during its initial flotation and subsequent reverse takeover of Digitek Holdings Limited.
Derek has enjoyed a varied career spanning more than 30 years in the City of London, including 25 years in corporate finance encompassing a wide range of client companies, markets and instruments from private businesses to major corporations and from debt issues to equities and derivatives.
He commenced his career in 1983 with R. Nivison & Co. (ultimately absorbed into Smith & Williamson Investments) as a fixed interest analyst and quickly progressed to the eurobond sales/trading desk where he became actively involved in the issuance of eurodollar convertible bonds. Thereafter, Derek became increasingly focused on providing corporate financial advice, culminating in him joining Keith, Bayley, Rogers & Co. in 1993 where he worked on numerous IPOs (on both the Official List and AIM), secondary fund raisings and M&A transactions. After spending more than 15 years with Keith, Bayley, Rogers & Co., the last two years of which as Managing Director, Derek left to join Religare Capital Markets as a Director – Corporate Finance in January 2009. In February 2012, Derek moved to natural resources specialist VSA Capital as a Director, Corporate Finance, before joining Argento Capital Markets in January 2014.
Derek holds a BSocSc honours degree in Mathematics, Economics and Statistics from the University of Birmingham and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment.
Rachel graduated summa cum laude from the University of Connecticut with a BA in Economics and has an MBA from Yale University’s School of Management.
She started her career in New York in 1997 with the William H. Donner Foundation Endowment. After obtaining her MBA, she worked for Franklin Templeton Investments in New York as a buy-side Research Analyst covering the global financial mid-cap sector. She then moved to London, where she worked for Goldman Sachs as the lead analyst for the UK retail sector.
In 2010, Rachel joined Religare Capital Markets as the lead analyst for companies in the agriculture and consumer sectors. Her coverage included companies such as Asia Citrus, New Britain Palm Oil, Anglo Eastern Plantations, MP Evans, Feronia and Zambeef.
Rachel acts as Argento’s representative in New York.
Leila was born in Mauritius and graduated from the University of Natal, South Africa with a BSc in Chemical Engineering, she progressed her academic qualifications by undertaking a BCom from the University of South Africa and continued on to a Masters of Business Leadership programme (Cum Laude) also at the University of South Africa. She speaks fluent French.
She went into Planning and Process Engineering in 1989 with the Engen (Mobil) Refinery as a Senior Refinery Engineer in South Africa for six years.
Her career took her to SRK Consulting as a Senior Environmental Engineer, thereafter becoming a business consultant with Deloitte’s in South Africa, between 1996-1999, where she was involved in the origination and delivery of business solutions for large to mid-cap businesses, focusing on the energy industry, in roles ranging from Engagement Manager, Project Manager and Specialist Consultant.
A career change led her into investment banking, joining Barnard Jacobs Mellet Securities, South Africa/London for seven years. She was the Lead Analyst for the Oil and Gas, Petrochemicals and Paper and Packaging sectors, becoming rated in the top 3 for Oil and Gas and Paper and Packaging. In London she moved to work first with Daniel Stewart, then Religare Capital Markets and Panmure Gordon. Leila has published equity research reports, flash-notes, and thematic pieces on listed Exploration and Production companies. She has participated and advised on a number of deals with a focus on equity/debt raisings for corporate clients and established relationships with industry entrepreneurs, UK listed PLCs and institutional investors.
After joining Argento, she has become its representative in Abu Dhabi, focusing on developing opportunities in the Middle East.
